Read Aloud Chrome Extension uses Text-to-speech (TTS) technology to convert webpage text to audio. It is compatible with a wide range of websites, including news websites, blogs, fan fiction, periodicals, textbooks, school and more! With a single click, read aloud the current web page article (TTS). It supports over 40 languages.

Overview

Read Aloud Chrome Extension lets you choose from a number of text-to-speech voices, including those offered by the browser. Text-to-speech cloud service providers such as Google Wavenet, Amazon Polly, IBM Watson, and Microsoft. Some cloud-based voices may require an extra in-app purchase to activate.

Read Aloud is capable of reading PDF, Google Docs, Google Play Books, Amazon Kindle, and EPUB files (via the excellent EPUBReader extension from epubread.com).

Read Aloud is designed for someone who prefer to listen to content rather than read it, individuals with dyslexia or other learning challenges, and children who are learning to read.

Navigate to the web page you wish to read, then click the Read Aloud icon in the Chrome menu. Additionally, the ALT-P, ALT-O, ALT-Comma, and ALT-Period shortcut keys can be used to play/pause, stop, rewind, and forward.

You can also choose which text to read before activating the addon. Right-clicking on the selected text will give you yet another context menu option to activate Read Aloud Chrome Extension.

To modify the voice, reading speed, pitch, or enable text highlighting, navigate to the Options page by right-clicking the Read Aloud Extension icon and selecting Options, or by clicking the Gear button on the extension popup (you must stop playback to see the Gear button).
