Early Life

Faheem Rasheed Najm was born on September 30, 1985, in Tallahassee, Florida. His stage name “T-Pain” is an abbreviation for Tallahassee Pain, which he adopted due to the difficulties he had growing up there. 

He grew up in a Muslim household but is not religious. He had his first experience in the music business when he was three years old when a family friend who was a gospel jazz artist/producer let him spend time in his recording studio. 

He converted his bedroom into a music studio when he was 10 years old, complete with a keyboard, a beat machine, and a four-track recorder. In 2004, he joined the rap group Nappy Headz. Akon signed him to Konvict Muzik.

On March 27, 2009, T-Pain was involved in a golf cart accident. He was supposed to film a music video for Lil’ Kim’s song “Download.”
