Early Life

Liu was born in Harbin, China, on April 19, 1989. He was reared by his grandparents until age five, when he moved to Kingston, Ontario, Canada, with his parents. He grew up in Mississauga, Ontario, and completed secondary school at the University of Toronto Schools. Simu then studied business management at the University of Western Ontario’s Ivey Business School, where he graduated with honors in 2011.

Liu subsequently accepted a position as an accountant at Deloitte but soon discovered he was “dissatisfied” with his new profession. He was finally laid off and began to look for new opportunities. He made the decision to become an actor and stuntman.


Most of Simu’s first performances included minor roles in Guillermo del Toro’s “Pacific Rim” and the music video for Avicii’s “I Could Be The One.” In 2012, he appeared in the film “Nikita,” and in 2014, he appeared in “Beauty and the Beast.” He performed as a stuntman on the miniseries “Heroes Reborn,” as well as “Sick: Survive the Night.”
