Early Life

Jermaine Dupri Mauldin was born in Asheville, North Carolina, on September 23, 1972. Dupri’s father Michael was a Columbia Records executive. Jermaine was exposed to music from an early stage and his career began when he was a child.

In 1982, Jermaine’s father organized a Diana Ross show in Atlanta and Jermaine got up on stage to dance with his father who was a legendary singer. A few years later, when he was 12, he began to dance with the hip-hop group Whodini.

When the group’s 1980s hit “Freaks Come Out at Night,” Jermaine also appeared in the music video. During Dupri’s teenage years, he was passionate about raising young artists in the Atlanta area as well as performing for Run DMC and Grandmaster Flash.

Jermaine Dupri’s Financial Problems

Jermaine Dupri has struggled financially despite having a net worth of $60 million in 2006 and earning $11 million in 2008. He was fined an estimated $183,000 in delinquent taxes in 2008, as well as an estimated $2.5 million outstanding between 2003 and 2005.
